Imagine having a great product ready for the market, but your online store is holding you back every step of the way — it’s slow, not responsive, and you have no idea who’s managing what behind the scenes. That’s exactly what happened to the team at tontau. After several frustrating experiences with different developers, they found us through a Shopify podcast and asked if we could help them finally launch a fully functional webshop. The deadline? Less than two weeks, just in time for a major conference.
PROBLEM ANALYSIS
When the client approached us, they already had a partially completed Shopify store, but its performance and functionality were far below expectations. The first major issue was a language mix-up: parts of the website were in German, others in English — creating confusion and reducing the brand’s credibility.
On top of that, the existing platform was slow and unresponsive, which is a serious drawback for any eCommerce store. The site’s structure and navigation didn’t follow basic UX/UI principles, making it hard for users to find products or complete their purchases.
The client made it clear: the new webshop had to be fully functional and ready within three weeks to be showcased at a conference. This made it crucial to come up with a solution that would meet all marketing, visual, and technical requirements — all within a tight deadline and budget.
HOW WE SOLVED IT
Since the client already had a logo and visual identity, we didn’t need to work on brand development. Instead, we focused entirely on building a new Shopify store design aligned with their brand, using Figma, Flaticon, and Adobe Illustrator to enhance the visual appeal through custom graphics and iconography.
To speed up the process, we used the existing website as a reference point — analyzing all critical areas, discussing with the client what worked and what didn’t, and then rebuilding everything from scratch. This approach allowed us to avoid previous mistakes and create a store based on modern UX/UI standards. Thanks to outstanding communication and fast feedback loops, the client provided all necessary materials (texts, images, translations) promptly, allowing each iteration to move forward quickly.
KEY FEATURES
We selected a Shopify theme and fully customized it to match tontau’s visual identity — adjusting colors, typography, and icons. To further enhance the user experience, we implemented a sticky “Add to Cart” button that follows the user while scrolling. For users comparing two products, we introduced an intuitive comparison slider.
The webshop was launched in two languages (German and English), making it accessible to a wider audience. We also added dynamic product recommendations (“You may also like”) based on each user’s browsing history and a countdown timer for free shipping — both proven tactics to improve conversion rates.
The slide-in cart drawer allows users to view their cart without leaving the product page, ensuring a smooth and uninterrupted checkout process. These functional upgrades significantly contribute to a more pleasant and efficient shopping journey.
RESULTS
Thanks to the dedication of both our team and the client’s fast response time, the Shopify store was fully functional and launched just in time for the conference.
Page loading speed dramatically improved compared to the previous solution, confirmed through internal testing and Google PageSpeed Insights. The result was a rebooted Shopify store that’s optimized for all devices (desktop, tablet, and mobile), visually aligned with modern UI trends, and provides a seamless UX experience.
The responsive design and intuitive navigation helped users find products faster and complete purchases with ease — ultimately leading to a noticeable increase in conversion rate.
